Dr Mark Dimond

Dr Mark Dimond has over 18 years of experience in urban data analysis and 12 years of delivering transport planning projects. As Director of the new, independent consultancy firm 'Cultivate : transport and urban data', his expertise spans various fields, including public transport data analysis, transport modelling, data science, and capacity building.

This follows a period of 11 successful years delivering a range of projects through a more established transport planning consultancy, where he had most recently fulfilled the strategic and senior role of an Associate. His experience included major investment appraisals and strategy/planning in the UK, and many public transport and transport strategy assignments with partners in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. Amongst these were a major policy CO2 modelling project with partners in Central Asia, a model visualisation tool for a strategic transport model in Eastern Europe, and a co-writing a successful major investment bid for cities in the East Midlands of the UK.

Mark is particularly accomplished at transport data R+D, having developed bespoke tools to help collect data internationally, especially in the 'data poor' environment of developing country cities. He has also built new GIS workflows to transform this data into evidence that helps clients understand transport questions more deeply. This has included harnessing new techniques such as computer vision and language models.
