Richard Lewis
Richard Lewis is a strategic planner and transport planner with strengths in vision-led strategies and funding bid narratives. He has 26 years of diverse experience across the public, private and community sectors.
His track record of career successes includes two major funding bids (£30m and £6.5m) for active travel projects in Kingston and Inverness as well as a host of smaller funding successes, the successful completion of Local Plan and Local Transport Plan policy work, and preparation of public realm design guidance.
Since founding ActivePlanning in early 2018, he has completed or contributed to several Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans, prepared supporting statements for two planning inquiries and a DCO, and undertaken a vision-led transport planning exercise for the City of Winchester Trust. He has contributed high level strategy to various transport assessments, undertaken LCWIP route studies including concept design work and overseen the work of technical partners to deliver detailed scheme designs.
Richard has a detailed strategic knowledge of active travel design, both as a daily cyclist and pedestrian and having studied and experienced infrastructure abroad, in Vienna, Germany, Paris, London, Denmark and the Netherlands. His eye for design and lateral thinking serves his design quality review panel roles for Epping, Harlow and Somerset.
